Teen film

What is a teen film?
 A teen film is a teen genre in which its targeted audience is teenagers and young adults. Therefore, the subculture used within the film is at the interest of young pupils. For example first love, rebellion,violence, comedy, conflict with parents, troublemakers, and alienation. 
Films within this genre are usually set in High-school. This is because theres mostly teenagers if not young adults in colleges. 
Movies such as kidulthood, love and basketball, material girls,mean girls, american pie and anuvahood could include some of the above genres. 

In reference, American pie is set around a teenagers life. The main locations are the home bedroom, school canteen/class or corridors. 

 Love and Basketball differs from American pie. For example, love and basketball is more into sport, romance and education, which may relate to others as its about love if not first love.  




What sub genres are common?
  • Teen comedy    (Superbad, Hangover, Project x etc)               
  • Teem drama      ( Kidulthood, My Brother the devil)
  • Crimes & Gangster (BulletBoy) 


Main Locations for Teen films:
  •  Home; Bedroom, Living room, Bath room and kitchen at times. These are the most frequently used rooms. 
  • School/College; class-room, corridor, canteen. Main locations where teenagers socialise.
  • Sports Location; Sports hall, field, courtyard and the gym.
  • 'Hang out' Location; Cinema, home parties, mainly outdoors if not home in their bedrooms either playing game consoles or girls discussing what to wear for an upcoming event.
