Kidulthood: a review

Kidulthood: My review

As I reach the end of researching Teen films and the filming grows closer, I have to review... something. It would really help the group and also I was asked to and seen as I can't remember the name of the film that she suggested for me to review. I decided to do Kidulthood, I also decided to do it because my group are looking at making a gritty urban teen drama and Kidulthood just so happens to fit all those boxes so... let's begin.

Kidulthood is a teen drama about the issues with London's modern youth. It depicts drugs, sex alcohol, crime, violence, bullying, racism and many more. The film is rated fifteen therefore you can assume it is aimed at young adults. And I find it relatable because even though I would never live the lives depicted in the movie, I know it is not hard to and I am never far from it.

So this review thing...
The film features plenty of realistic reenactments of common issues with plenty of the london "rudeboy" attitude added in. Despite being a drama it has quite a few funny moments just to demonstrate how wild and uncontrollable a group of boys are, which I feel is quite excessive and stereotypical. The whole film itself uses very strong and common stereotypes in order to strengthen the issues such as the most of the young men being extremely violent.

But I think the film is very good because of its story and well chosen locations. It uses a large number of urban locations which are all well chosen and  very appropriate. The actors in the film are not very well known but they act very well and none of the fail to give a very energetic performance

However I feel the best thing about the film is how accurate it is. Although there film focuses biasly on the youths who are extreme in some way, the accuracy and depth of each problem is phenomenal it serves well as a warning to parents. As a teenager I know how some young people do very bad things or have serious problems that their parents will never know about.

Overall I would rate the film 8/10 mostly because of the realism, drama, and locations. You can check out a critic review here.

here is one of my favourite scenes.
