The Distribution icon

Here is my work on the Distribution Icon

I started making a Distrubutor icon, we as a group decided on the name Kino Films and I staarted using Motion. Bearing in mind I have never used the software before it was a real dive into the deep end for me.

Because Kino Films are quite old fashioned I decided that I would only use black and white. I found it diffictult to get to grips with the software but eventually I managed it.

I started off with a black background and the word "Kino"  in white.  Animated the logo to move down the screen so that the last letter touched the centre. I then decided to add in the films. This was one I accidently discovered the 3D lighting effect and adapted my work to it. I used different angles for the word film until I got an angle where it was not vsible. then I transitioned it to visible. Finally I decided to add a camera into the mix. The camer was originally a photo of the old camera shown below but I touched it up.

I removed the background and used the sketch effect in Adobe Photoshop, so it became this.

The background is converted in white because it is in a Jpeg format but in Motion I put it in as PNG meaning it did not have a background

I then used a zoom effect with this one where the light would not hit it until it reaced a certain point in the zoom. Here is the first export.
As you can see it jolts and shift alot so I looked at a few tutorials, then I removed extra animation points and  worked on the timing.
 (me working on the timing

I did not intend for the ending effect where the text dissapears but only about 4 seconds will be used out of the ten so it will be fine.

Amajor problem that I had that you can see from the screenshots is that the 3D effect does not function in the editor window. The 3D effect would only clearly shot if I was modifying it, this made it more difficult but the end result turned out ok.

Creating the Production icon

in order to create and animate the production icon i used the Motion software provided. this proved to be a huge challenge since it was the very first time i have ere used the softtware and i found it very counter intuitive. however with the aid of teachers and class mates i was bale to create this clip which in the end proved to be easier than i initially thought since all that was required is the creation of the background and simply animating the light object to move across the screen..

Production today (editing and making production and distribution logos)

  Day Two of Editing

today we split up and continued with the edit. this left two of us working on the edit and the others creating the production icons.

here is a surprise interview explaining everything our editing team has been up to

As you can see they have just started to add the fight scene and the sound effects this is a rough cut and something that is experiemental is the fact that they are using an audience sfx, even though there is not audience. This means that unless we can lower the background lights to black we may have to consider an alternative sound effect.

Editing: Day one

Day One of Editing

for the initial edit we used Final Cut Pro since it is the most professional editing software available to us and it is one we are most familiar with. this software also allows us to use edited clips from other sources. for example we filmed one shot in 50 fps and edited it in CinemaTools, which gave it a slow motion effect. Then we imported it into Final Cut  and added it to our film.

we managed to fully edit roughly half of our film today. this includes sound effects, colour correction, match cutting, filtering and equalising. the only thing which is missing from the intro is the credits for which we will use after effects to animate them over the clip.

Filming day 2

After a one hour upload...

I have exported our vlog of day 2 of our filming. what we did is we filmed moments of interests and edited some parts out. We did not have the time to film a whole long filming session (around 10 hrs)but here is the 45min clip.

here are some pictures that we took

These pictures show just how important lighting was for us. As you can seee most of our shots will have the lights blaring straighti nto the camera. This adds a nice, spotlight effect as though we are in a professional boxing ring.

Another comparrison of lighting this time we have dimmed the room but it still is quite bright so that there are no editing problems (lighting can be turned down in editing but, not up). Again the use of the dido lights have a strong effect on the dramatics of the scene. It makes the shadows casted stronger and more defined and also causes the camera to black out the outlines. Although there is still some debate about which one we will use we shot both.

We haveluckily got a picture that one of us took whichshows the locations

Reschdule and some chaos

as shown by our previous blogs we are meant to be filming today. Yeah not going to happen. 2 of our group members are not in. We have already filmed one scene but I am currently airing out my camcorder that we used to record a behind the scenes footage. A flash storm is not nice for camera recording equipment and I forgot about the little guy even though it was attached to my hand. I will upload the first filming day which was monday as soon as I can.

Well today we decided to just sort of rehearse what we are doing next time we will be filming. here is the video, we filtered the video in a way that is similar to how we would our film to be.

We have schedule one 10 hour filming session on Wednesday the 19th. And it is a real dissapointmet because we had a fully booked boxing ring and it just looks bad. But oh well, we just have to make the best of a bad situation.

Pitch feedback

Here is how we felt from the pitch

*For this blog we recommned you scroll down and watch our pitch first*

Our Teacher felt that some risks were
  • The clips duration may be too long
  • We did not do the skills audit or the production ident
  • Shoreditch may be too crowded
  • The train at night may be a challenge
In light of this feedback we  have decided that:
  • We will make sure that our clip has very short flashbacks
  • We will add a skill audit and prodcution ident to the presentation
  • we have chosen mostly backstreet areas and places that are not crowded for our locations
  • We will just use a shot of an overground train, not necessarily at night

Here is how we felt it went

SafeGuard Title Logo

SafeGuard Title Logo

This is the logo for our movie 'SafeGuard'. It was created and manipulated on Adobe Photoshop. I kept the logo simple, yet effective. I downloaded the font off a website called 'DaFont' so that it was unique and eye catching. I also picked this text type because it fits the theme of the movie and it is eye catching for it's target audience. I downloaded the images of the fighters off the same website and neither of them are copyright as they were free to download. I placed 3 different images on the logo with the main one standing out in the middle. These images link back to our movie and it's theme, which is boxing\fighting.

I also added a background image for the logo which can be used as a poster. However, I will not use this because I am not sure if it is copyright or not and also it isn't any of our characters which are going to be used in the movie. Instead, I am going to take a professional and good looking still image at the day of the shoot in the boxing area and replace it with this image so then it will be our image and it will suit our movie even more.

The Pitch presentation

Safeguard's hour

So our group just pitched and this is the slideshow

We made a few changes. We added our skilss audit and also we added a likely distributor but it was a very solid presentation that covered most points.

film intro planning extra
For our production we will require photographs of London, in particular the gritty urban side of it. these photographs will be scattered in between the credit sequence and give our piece personality.
For this we will attempt to mimic the theme of Don McCullins work of England, but put our modern teenage spin on it.
here are some photos we will be influenced by.

potential props already available for filming
a knife to be used in the second flashback for a stabbing, a different knife may be more suitable however due to this models ergonomics which may make it unclear it is a knife.

a fighters robe to be used for the entrance of the main character into the boxing ring. this is not the best suited prop for the scene since it is a jiu jitsu robe and not a boxing one which we require, however it may be used if we cannot find a better one.

a blue fighters robe for the other fighter should it be required, or an alternative for the main character.

a pair of boxing shorts for the boxing fight to be used by one of the fighters.

gum shields for the fighters to be used in their entrance and the actual fight. these also allow our actors to actually hit each other with minimal risk of injury, yet adding realism to the fight sequence.

These are only props which are available to me from my household and are not the full list of props we will require. also this list does not account for the inventory available to other members of my group.

Opening Credits

Opening Credits

Opening credits is the main factor identified at the start of a movie. Opening credits show the main members from the production. They are now usually shown as text superimposed on a blank screen or static pictures, or sometimes on top of action in the show.
Here is a common way to set out opening credits. Mass production companies may have more such as visual editing supervisor etc

  • Production Icon
  • Distribution Icon
  • Distribution in TITLE SEQUENCE
  • Film Title
  • Actor one (The person that gets the most screentime)
  • Actor two
  • Actor Three etc
  • Casting
  • Music by
  • Music supervisor
  • Editing By
  • Production Designer
  • Executive Producer
